Introduction

About this Blog:

This blog will be about my foray into Battlefront's WWIII game. It'll detail my hobby work, thoughts in designing my armies, tournament experiences, and anything else that strikes me. Hopefully it'll be useful for people looking into the hobby, while being a fun read for seasoned veterans of the game

About me:

I live in Wisconsin, working in IT. Hobby wise I've been doing miniature gaming since 1994 having gotten into because of my late father. I was fortunate to grow up with a regular gaming group which included Mark Anderson, Duke Siefreid, and several other people who have brought forth a variety of game systems and periods for us to play. I grew up with historical gaming, and it's where my heart is. Even though Battlefront's WWIII game is alternate history, the TOE is historical with historical powers.

A large part of the appeal of this hobby for me is honestly the hobbyist side. I love sitting down, designing, building, and painting an army. It's relaxing for me, I need a creative outlet and this is mine.

Me and WWIII: Team Yankee

My first army for WWIII, which I started in January 2019 (right around when my father passed away) was West Germans. I fully knew they were arguably more challenging, but I liked the vehicles and I've got German heritage. So the notion of being Germans fighting for freedom had a very strong appeal as well. They'll always be a favorite... even if I were to go off the deep end and eventually have every country. I took them to Adepticon and had a blast, despite only having a couple games under the belt. Great people played there and made me feel welcome.

I was born in 1985, the year that WWIII starts in the game and my first clear memories of the news was the Gulf War and the Iraq War started in my Senior year in high school. So like many my age who paid attention to the news, Iraq has always been on our minds. So when Oil War was announced I was rather excited for the book. Israel, Iraq, and Iran all had an appeal to me for a variety of reasons. I do have an Israeli force waiting to be built and I'll enjoy building them. However, Iraq also called out to me. After getting a gift of a bunch of stuff from a friend, I set my mind to doing Iraqis.

One thing I already like about Iraqis is making the vehicles look right. They won't look factory fresh, nor am I going to overdue weathering. The Iraqis will let me go with a different aesthetic than my West Germans. Iraq will also be very different from West Germans in that they will have numbers. I also have a Soviet force started, but the transports and much of the support for my them have been re-purposed for Iraq.
